I’m here to do my job. Not make friends.
I will piss people off.
It’s inevitable.
As long as I do the RIGHT thing, I know I’m on the right track.
Everyone has an Agenda
Look, everyone has an agenda. EVERYONE. It doesn’t matter who it is.
Your job is to do your job with your customer’s benefit in mind. I’m not saying being an a$$hole in the office. What I’m saying is you have to always do what is right. If someone is asking for something in particular, always ask why. Put the oneness on them to provide a valid reason for you to go off course or change direction.
This isn’t always easy. You’ll get looks and tones like,
"Who the hell are you?"
You’ll get ‘escalation’ emails to superiors complaining that you’re not cooperating.
Well, let me tell you… as long as you have a valid reason that aligns with your customer’s needs, they’ll trust your direction. That’s not to say that they won’t ask you to change gears but at least they’ll understand why you’re staying the course.
The goal here is to do what you know is right and what aligns with the goals and objectives previously set forth.
Don’t be easily swayed by those whining and crying for you to do it their way.
Everyone has an agenda!
Protect your project!
